Our Programs & Services
11 active programmes delivering crisis support, counselling, prevention, youth mentorship, skills development, and community outreach across Jeffreys Bay and the greater Kouga region.
On Eagles' Wings operates 11 integrated programmes designed to address gender-based violence and its root causes - from immediate crisis intervention through to long-term empowerment. Our multi-disciplinary team of trained counsellors, social workers, and community volunteers work across Jeffreys Bay, Joubertina, and into the wider Kouga and Kou-Kamma regions. Every service is offered free of charge to those in need, in a confidential and dignified environment. In the 2024/2025 period, our programmes collectively reached 6,727 beneficiaries.
Crisis Support & Victim Counselling
When someone has been through the worst, they need immediate, compassionate support - without barriers, judgment, or cost. Our crisis support and victim counselling programme is the front line of what we do.
Linked to the Department of Social Development, our crisis centre provides a safe, confidential space for survivors of gender-based violence, domestic abuse, rape, and trauma. Our trained counsellors and pastoral workers offer immediate debriefing, ongoing trauma counselling, and - where needed - referral to legal assistance, safety planning, and shelter. In the 2024/2025 period, 416 individuals received counselling and victim support through this programme.
- Emergency trauma debriefing and crisis counselling for GBV and rape survivors
- Individual and family counselling - including trauma, substance abuse, bereavement, and HIV/AIDS support
- Safety planning, legal referrals, and coordination with SAPS and social services
- Shelter referrals and follow-up support for survivors leaving dangerous situations
- All services offered free of charge and in complete confidence
GBV Prevention & School-Based Education
Prevention is as important as response. Our GBV awareness and education programme takes the conversation about gender-based violence, healthy relationships, and personal safety directly into schools, community halls, and public spaces across Jeffreys Bay and the Kouga region.
Working through structured outreach sessions, our team visits primary and high schools, youth groups, and community organisations - helping young people understand what constitutes abuse, where to find help, and how to protect themselves and others. Education is the foundation of lasting change, and this programme is a core part of our contribution to the National Strategic Plan on GBV, Femicide, and Sexual Offences.
- In-school GBV awareness sessions for primary and high school learners
- Community awareness events and public education campaigns
- Safe disclosure pathways - helping those who witness or experience abuse to find help
- Facilitated discussions on healthy relationships, consent, and personal boundaries
Youth Mentorship & Family Strengthening
Young people growing up in communities affected by GBV need more than information - they need mentors, safe spaces, and the tools to make different choices. Our youth mentorship programmes work with girls, boys, and fathers to build a stronger, safer next generation.
Our girls mentoring programme reached 599 young women in 2024/2025, through structured group sessions focused on self-worth, healthy relationships, leadership, and safety. Our boys mentoring programme engaged 352 young men - challenging harmful norms and building empathy and accountability. Alongside these, our Fathers and Male Role Models programme reached 226 men, supporting them to become positive, protective presences in the lives of their families and communities.
- Girls mentoring groups - self-worth, safety, leadership, and life skills (599 reached in 2024/2025)
- Boys mentoring groups - challenging harmful norms, building healthy masculinity (352 reached in 2024/2025)
- Fathers and Male Role Models programme - 226 men engaged in 2024/2025
- Family strengthening sessions - rebuilding communication and protective relationships at home
Menstrual Health & Hygiene
Period poverty is a real barrier to dignity, education, and participation for girls and young women in under-resourced communities. Our menstrual health programme combines education, stigma reduction, and practical product support to ensure no girl misses school or feels ashamed because of her period.
Through our girls mentoring sessions and dedicated menstrual health outreach, we reach young women in Jeffreys Bay and the wider Kouga region - in schools, community spaces, and through our door-to-door work in farm areas. Education sessions cover reproductive health, hygiene, and body confidence. Where possible, we also distribute menstrual health supplies to those who cannot access or afford them.
- Menstrual health education integrated into girls mentoring groups and school outreach
- Stigma reduction and open, age-appropriate conversations about reproductive health
- Distribution of menstrual hygiene products to girls in need
- Link to broader wellbeing, safety, and self-advocacy conversations
Community & Regional Outreach
Not everyone can come to us. Many of those who need help most live in isolated farms, informal settlements, and rural villages where access to services is severely limited. Our community outreach programme takes support to where people are.
Our door-to-door and community outreach work is one of our highest-reach programmes. In 2024/2025, we reached 1,632 people through direct outreach visits across Jeffreys Bay, Patensie, Thornhill, Blomplas, the surrounding farms of the Gamtoos Valley, and the broader Kou-Kamma region. Teams travel out to distribute information, check in on known survivors, connect isolated families to services, and build the trust that makes disclosure possible. Our Joubertina satellite office anchors our Kou-Kamma outreach work.
- Door-to-door farm and community visits across Kou-Kamma and Gamtoos Valley (1,632 reached in 2024/2025)
- Outreach to Patensie, Thornhill, Blomplas, and surrounding rural areas
- Joubertina satellite office providing a local presence for the Kou-Kamma community
- Distribution of resources, referrals, and safety information to isolated households
Skills Development & Women's Empowerment
Healing from trauma is only part of the journey. Building economic independence and a sense of purpose is what makes that healing lasting. Our skills development programmes equip survivors - and community members at risk - with practical vocational skills and the confidence to use them.
Our flagship Thread & Thrive programme teaches sewing and tailoring skills in a supported, community environment - combining practical learning with the social connection and encouragement that many participants have never had access to before. In 2024/2025, 293 people participated in skills development programmes. Beyond Thread & Thrive, our women's support groups provide a regular, facilitated space for survivors to process their experiences, support one another, and rebuild their sense of self and direction.

- Life skills training - financial literacy, communication, parenting, and self-advocacy
